Brea had a good number of Verizon models and a few WiFi, but no AT&T. GSM models are obviously being saved for the international launch.
No GSM at SCP either.

Something like that I'm sure, you have:
ix.Mac.MarketingName
you have the "i", as in iOS
then you have the "x", as in OS X
and then you have the Mac
and you have the possibility of "iX" as in iOS X as in iOS for Mac OS X?
WHAT exactly it is or refers to, is an open question, but with the i, the X, and the Mac in the iOS App Store, it is definitely interesting.
Maybe a sign of universal iOS+Mac apps?

It seems like a major problem with this would be the fact that you get no tactile feedback. However, I have tapping enabled on my iBook and I don't find it odd or uncomfortable at all then I "click" on something. I'm sure it would take some getting used to, but I imagine that it could work.

I don't know about other countries, but I've noticed so many people in America just expect almost everything to be free these days.
I mean, seriously? It's getting a little tiresome.

When Microsoft claim that their investment might not pay off for five years, they're paving the way for failure. For the next two or three years, when pressed about the lack of profits, they can claim that the payoff will be in a couple of years from then. They won't have to actually admit that they've failed until after 2010. It's not dissimilar to Bill Gates claiming that there's an 80% chance of Vista shipping on time, it sounds positive, but few people believe it actually will ship in January. It's just paving the way for the next excuse.
It's very important that Microsoft try very hard with Zune. They keep claiming that the iPod succeeded simply because of slick marketing, whereas everybody else knows that it succeeded by being an attractive proposition, combining style with ease of use. It was word-of-mouth publicity that really worked for the iPod. You can't buy that, it added massive value to the money that was spent on advertising.
So here's Microsoft's opportunity to look at the last five years of the iPod, together with three years of iTMS, take it all in and apply their 'innovation', show us the ultimate product and then spend a fortune marketing it. There must be no doubt that Microsoft must be seen to throw everything into this project. Then Steve Jobs will be delighted to rise to the challenge and delight in humiliating Bill Gates.
I really like that last paragraph, lol. I seriously doubt they'll even pose competition. There was an image that was supposedly an actual Zune player, and if it is it's already paving the road for failure.
Honestly Microsoft will fail, and it's not because they are going to take forever to show anyone anything. Microsoft will fail because it doesn't understand the demographic it is trying to produce a product for. Microsoft may cater to business and such, but in the eyes of teenagers, many of whom are anti-establishment, Microsoft is simply not cool. Not only is Microsoft uncool, it doesn't understand what IS cool.
Meanwhile, Apple is a huge corporation, and yet even people who hate large corporation love Apple. Apple knows how to market. Apple continuously sets the standard for good design year in, year out.
Steve Jobs is cool. He's funny. Most people just think Bill Gates, though simply a figurehead now, is the devil (despite that recent huge charitable donation). Steve Ballmer is an oaf. Microsoft has neither the image or the talent to fight this battle. Hell, they've even started to slowly lose the grip on the industry that once held them so dearbusiness computing.

The release of the white iPhone coming up soon, further proves that the 5 won't be out anytime soon. My guess is maybe 4th QT of this year early 1st QT of next.
In the mean time, might get the white one for my girl, she's still on my old 3G and it hurts me to see her still using that thing.

I know better than to make to much of the market's verdict on any given week.
long term investors, which seems to be most people commenting here, would do better to look at the market verdict in terms of years. AAPL has broken down through its 50, 100 & 200 day moving average on INCREASING volume. That is a bear signal if ever there was one.
Look back to mid AAPL broke down past its 200 day moving average HOWEVER there was no increase in volume and the stock rebounded. That is a mixed signal.
Whilst I would never buy AAPL, looking at the long term chart I would expect consolidation followed by another fall...how far I don't know. If I look at the 10 year chart on a linear scale, where the price increase of the past 7 years becomes much more dramatic, then 40 dollars looks a good bet....and there seems to be some technical support at 60 dollars.
YMMV

I don't see it.
Apple can offer nothing but slightly better integration with it's own devices in this space. There are already many, many wonderfully design sets that do a ton of things from 3D to web apps in the market. Like it was mentioned in the piece, profit margins are too low.
Airplay integration as others have pointed out is what will happen.

Should I see if i can install this beta I got from a friend?
Mmm hmm.
#1) NEVER install beta software, especially not an OS, on a computer that you care about at all. It could potentially destroy your computer and destroy everything on your hard disk.
#2) NEVER NEVER EVER run software you got from a "friend."
#3) Talking about pirating software, which this is, is prohibited on this forum.

I bought some Christmas music that was tagged as miscellaneous not Christmas... That is annoying.
Agree - christmas music is quite annoying.
And the selection of Saturnalia music is quite thin.

Yes, the iPhone does compete against Android. The last time I went into a AT&T or Verizon store, this was obvious. To say that the iPhone does not compete against Android is silly.
When your sales numbers for phones are ~50% of that of your competitor; whereas a few years ago they were barely a blip, then yes that means they are getting kicked in the teeth in handset OS sales.
Win... the point is, it's not hurting Apple. Apple continues to grow it's share. It's hurting the others. Android has replaced a hodge podge of OS's out there.
So, it's not "kicking the teeth" out of iOS. That would only be a fair statement if Apple had a licensing program for others. But they don't. Moto, Samsung and others ran to Android because their own efforts were abysmal and they needed to do something before Apple owned the smart phone universe.
Yes, it has slowed Apple's adoption because it is a very attractive alternative, but again... not a fair comparison and if anyone is getting teeth rattled, it's RIM. They have been consistently loosing market share and it's not looking good for BB.

How would an operating system KNOW it is being run in virtualization? It cannot determine the difference from a real computer. We are talking about Vista like it is an artificial intelligence of some kind.
Same way iTunes can detect that you're trying to rip a CD from a virtual CD drive. (Even though this one is easily bypassed). There aren't that many VM packages and they all have a unique signature that can be detected which does not involve AI or even rocket science.
In the end though there is no point in discussing how they detect it, since it would appear that they don't plan use any technological means to stop you from doing what their EULA appears to say you can't do.

I've currently got a single 1GB stick in a three year old PB - will that be OK to swap into a new MBP?
Iain
NO, even if it was the last powerbook G4 with DDR2 ram it still isn't compatible, different speed and spd DDR2 dont seem to mix very well. Best to buy a new stick from a reputable store (and remember Apple overcharges for RAM)

I guess the next step for apple is to take it even further. A touch-screen would be perfect. If the scroll wheel is incorporated into the screen, then wouldn't that mean more space, hince bigger screen? I can only hope.;)

The Thunderbolt Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbolt_(interface)) has a diagram showing the TB controller's access to things. The accompanying description ("Thunderbolt can be implemented on graphics cards, which have access to DisplayPort data and PCI express connectivity, or on the motherboard of new devices, such as the MacBook Pro.[5][17][22]") implies that a TB compatible PCIe graphics card could bring older systems up-to-date. That would be interesting.
Great find. Let's hope Apple releases a card for the Mac Pro.
The only connection I want going to my laptop is power. Everything else needs to be wireless. That is winning, duh. ;)
Induction charging will get rid of that one day too, I hope.

Well to be honest I was referring to the windows version of Word. I use Office 2003 on Windows and Office 2004 for Mac. I am not sure if the Mac version of word has the same plug-ins.
On the windows version. Go to file -> new and select the publishing tab. From there select Brochure. It will fire up the wizard and template if you have these options loaded.
Got it - thanks (I use Win Office 2003 only a couple of times a year these days, so am somewhat rusty).

Too many features can be a bad thing. I remember guy back in college... He always had the latest and greatest gadgets. Cell phone and beeper on his belt, you know they type. ***** tool.
Almost everybody have a cellphone these days. Add a iPod to that and possibly even a pocket pc and we all look like that poor dweeb. I doubt toolbelts filled with gadgets ever will make it as a fashion statement.
As you said yourself: As long as the iPod keeps it's position as the "cool" MP3 player, they will be just fine.
IMO, Apple needs to integrate the "must haves" in the iPod, or they will soon loose the "cool factor".

Hmmm, strange. A lot of people got caught out by that little check box, which is why I posted it.
Yeah, check box doesn't matter. No playcount updates. Can anyone confirm if it fixed in this new version? I will have to wait till I get home late this evening to test.
