MacRumors' forum - Politics, Religion, Social Issues
I was just curious, because it seems as if it is a "different" person posting. Perhaps in a day or two we'll see you posting how your little sister or mom got hold of your MacRumors account and posted all kind of weird stuff.
It has happened before.
Anyway, on to better things
There are some things I am passionate about, and some things...oh forget it.
This is like the 'Weird Al' rendition of the Political forum.

Overall I'm impressed. I wasn't expecting a GPU bump (though an upgrade to a Geforce 7600GT would have been possible and nice for the 15" model). What surprises me is that even the base model has 1x1GB of RAM-and at least with my educational discount adding a second 1GB stick from Apple is cheaper than Crucial!
The large hard drive size is great too! And presumably this is the now-working Rev b.
But...the hard drive is still difficult to access, right? That's what's kept me from buying a Macbook Pro so far. Basically I'm parinoid about having to send it in for service with that drive in there. Obviously there's all kinds of personal info on a hard drive I don't want floating around out there.
That's what's stopping me from getting this.
If not for that, I just did the math, and this comes out to roughly $400 more than a Macbook, which isn't terrible.
(Guess I would want the non-glossy screen? I guess that looks like a normal desktop LCD?)

AlexF...you seem to just be digging yourself into a deeper hole. You should just drop it, because your point is pointless. The iPod is the single greatest thing to happen to the "mac" in the history of Apple. And I've been here for the entirety of that history.
Anyone who thinks that the iPod is detracting from the value of macs is clueless.

Hey, don't say that too loud.
From the ever changing Macintosh Human Interface Guidelines (http://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/OSXHIGuidelines/XHIGIcons/chapter_14_section_2.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/20000967-TPXREF102):
And that's how they read now "Back" at the release of Tiger it was like this:(no explanation on why the changed was deemed more appropriate).
Hey, don't look at me. I did not write that!
It's still the same story. The icons are still distinctive and easily identified by their outline, as per interface guidelines. The fact that they're on a consistent and unified "button bar" or "bubble" is simply an aesthetic decision. Safari and the Finder have worked in this fashion since the beginning and no one threw the "HIG book" at Apple for that.

anything for macbooks? please?
What I'd like is the base MacBook to drop to $999 and the base mini to drop to $499. That's what the G4 versions cost before they were replaced by the Intel versions.

Exciting to hear.
Hopefully they've entered a period of sustained growth, one that can carry them far into the future.
... though will they ever break through that 5% glass ceiling?
Given that they're at 4.7% (averaged), I'll guess they'll cross 5% within the next calendar year. (Though I suspect it may happen before MWSF)

I don't want to join in the bandwagon of naysayers who think they know Apple very well because none of us actually do.
Instead, I'll look at how it can possibly be true.
First point: The iPhone was released amidst a sea of dumb smartphones but did this fact stop Apple from dominating and changing the market, so I a crowded market a deterrent to Apple to re-introduce TV to the world? NO
Second point: The way TV is done by current competitors and Apple themselves, is that the focus is being heavily shifted to go through the web, which of course traditional media firms don't like. But what if you have an appliance that connects the way it did to traditional networks but once contents gets in you can control it the way you want. Apple is about user experience, maybe they have developed a way to make traditional TV more fun and interactive to use.
Third point: Apple is an electronic appliance company now more than ever and have been eyeing on capturing the living room for a while now. The TV is the center of the living room and instead of plugging in on to one why not make an actual set, that way you cut out competition from more established appliance manufacturers?
Fourth point: Apple already has a game console which is considered the hub of home entertainment, it's called iPad.
So is it still impossible for Apple to bring out a TV? NO. So let's just wait for new information to come.
Pls look at post #94. Numbers speak for themselves and they tell me Apple won't get into TV business. Who's going to pay 2k every 2 - 3 years for a TV?

A friend in IT was all over his new EVO, saying and trying to show how superior it was to his old iPhone. Within a month or two the EVO was gone, replaced with an iPhone4. Why? He said it was a dead end. While a few things were really nice, it was buggy, there were too few apps, and it was just no fun to use.
Life should be fun, not fraught with glitches and a tool that had no soul.
That's what's been happening with a lot of people, they try all the "iPhone killers" and swear by them for a week or so, then all they do is complain and say I wish I got an iPhone! Most of the people I know that went that route are iPhone owners now.:apple:

If I ruled the world the person / people doing the beating would get a mandatory minimum 5 years in jail. The prison population would go up short term but the message would get across eventually. No getting out early for good behaviour either.

This photo is from my recent trip to India. I had asked about some gear and stuff before leaving (this is my first (D)SLR and my first foray into more serious photography). C&C on everything I post is welcome, as I would like to grow as a photographer!
Also, don't peek at my photostream, as I'd like to post some of those in the upcoming days here. :D
I posted this in the March thread... Way to go, me. We're obviously 3 days into April now. XD

Apple really really needs to get on this... As far as some Script Kiddie wanting to make a name for themself the mass of mac users would need to be higher. There are still currently not enough mac users to warrent such acts, you would not get notice. I feel that a lot of coders find holes in XP because then they can exploit big business, were as macs are more often than not home computers. If apple its athe big 10% mark this will all change.

18k PPD is pretty impressive. . . . if you run it in windows you could use the vid card too, probably pull close to 25k. I would love to see Pande Group put out a GPU client for mac OS X.... I'm getting sick of running windows 90% of the time on my Mac Pro.
With all of my machines (8) I am pulling 25k ppd. The '09 mac pro 2x2.66 is doing 4-5 min per frame for normal units - I'm afraid to change anything right now so I don't lose momentum.

I'm kind of surprised that he was still alive.
Apparently he had long term kidney disease... I thought he would have died in a cave years ago and no-one had found his body (we haven't seen him in the media for years).
Props to the US forces.
It's certainly good news... but might not mean very much. Al Qaeda was always more of a movement or 'franchise' than a hierarchical organisation with command and control.
I still think he died a long time ago (like 10 years) and the CIA hid his body to deny martydom and ease the occuapation of Afghanistan and Iraq. I mean, how "convienient" that they "have his body" now.
Like you indicate, it doesn't mean much now, martydom or not. But if I was the CIA, hmmm...maybe it's time to shift focus to Iran in some way rather than "hunt al queda". This has also got to be good news for arms dealers.

Looks ugly and much like a photo shopped iPod touch. Plus the bottom is to thin to support the 30pin as the iPod touch is just about big enough and losing half it's depth would be to narrow. Plus getting screen plus a5 plus screen into that form factor doesn't seem possible oh and don't forget a decent battery.

How is the statue of the noble team that comes with the legendary edition? Is it cheap looking or actually worth it?
It is really nice, and very worth it. It is plastic, but is very sturdy and looks great. They are all hand-painted, and very detailed. The real gem of the set, though, is Dr. Halsey's journal that comes with the Limited and Legendary versions. That thing is CRAZY awesome, and is filled with so much stuff, it boggles the mind. If you are into the lore and back story of the Halo universe, Bungie made this for you, and they didn't hold back.

I use my 3GS everyday at work as my ipod. After work, i get in my truck plug my phone in...43- 50%. After the 4.3.1 update i my phone went dead after 5 hours of ipod play. I had to turn off all location services, ect to squeek through the 8 hour day and plug it in after work at under 10%. Hope this update fixes the battery drain issue!

Yeah, I don't get all the "OMG $250 on a jumper". Seriously, I assume you guys have never shopped in Burberry, Paul Smith, D&G etc...
That Panerai watch looks awesome.
:apple:
It's the fact that while well made, it's pretty much a waste of money because clothes are a consumable.
Unlike something like a nice watch that will last for years and years, a shirt loses it's form and fades a bit after 1-2 years, at which point it's pretty much junk.
