In US It takes one day if you have police report, old passport copy. I have done this at the Chicago embassy. They will issue you a new passport with visa stamp (US visa only).

You don't. Your employer files an I9, and there they mention your status. This is why they need to update using an I9 every time you get a H1 extension.
As far as I-9 form goes, it is my understanding that it is not filed with any agency. The form is retained by the employer only.

yes, you can. I did it last summer. the first officer at the border did not know the rule and said we could not enter, then an older officer came and said we could. they let us in with expired visa but approved h-1b extension notice

Since his i140 is approved he should be eligible for H1B 3 yrs extension. I think it does not matter even if has changed employer.

Do not rush to decission. If you have good realtion with the current company, you can get assurance they do not revoke I-140 and also have the new employer file for H1 transfer under premium process. This will secure a 3 yr entension. Once this is done, see if the new employer starts GC as promissed or if you PD comes current, you can file for I-485 with your current employer for future job, and join him when the GC is approved or switch to the current employer with EAD after 485. It is workable, but there is a little amount of risk, if the new company messes thing with GC. They have to start on time and also make sure the new company had not layoff's recently, this will further delay the PERM filing. Also the current employermust not revoke your I-140. Only you know you status better than any one posting to forum. Make a good choice which is best for you and as long as you have all things staright forward and things done correctly / legally there should not be any issue. With USCIS, inspte of all, a little amount of luck is also requried. :)

How long does it take to write a bill? Wow.. Immediately after the mad rush for H1, there is a bill out in just 10days to give the relief. Guess the bill must have been written well-ahead anticipating the reality.

but in his case, he jumped to EAD (lost his nonimmigrant status temporarily) and is trying to jump back to H1 status.
See the thin is as far as the status goes I believe one is not on Immigrant status unless one gets the GC; and their are only two statuses, Immigrant and Non-Immigrant for us (or I guess illegal, which we are not for sure)!!
So do you think using EAD gives a person an Immigrant status in turn losing his non-immigrant status?

I sent money order for some applications and personal checks for some.
Money Order can be tracked thru' ur bank - call them and ask how. I did and they gave a 1-800 number to call and track - it is an automated system. My money order was thru' Chase Bank

LCA wage is $60K. For the current company it is Ok since I worked only for 8 months. But my concern is W2 with $50K in CA bay area will definitely raise a red flag when it comes to any further encounter with USICS (H1 extn/Labor/I-140/AOS/Consulate stamping). I will need to do a lot of explanation. I�m trying to avoid all that with a $60K W2.
What is the wage mentioned on LCA for the H1 ? Is it more then 50K?

I checked online for my daughter's 485 and it shows approved and document(possibly GC):eek: mailed on 12 Jan. But my status shows RFE stage. Another interesting thing is my daughter got fingerprinting for Jan 15. She has already done fingerprinting with us in Dec 07. Even if it was to be approved for my daughter how it can happen that she goes for FP on 15 Jan and they mailed document. I dont know what is going on. Any suggestions?

Our lawyer requested as a interfile while filing the new I-140. EB2 dates were current at the time of filing I-140 so that was possible. Otherwise we have to send in a copy of the new I-140 to join the I-485 when one's PD is current. I am waiting for copy of the I-140 to follow up on I-485 with SR and Infopass.
I am using the existing I-485 to avoid confusion and delay. That is what is being recommended by USCIS in many AILA meetings that I am aware of.

Then again I presume it would involve paying a fee of $80 for the biometrics too each time you apply online. Could be avoided if we go paper based.
That does raise a small question here, the $1010 fee that we pay does that also exempt us on the biometric fee, so in essence AP/EAD/FP is all exempt irrespecitve the number of times we apply under the new fee structure?

http://www.lspace.org/books/reading-order-guides/ has a map over which books makes sense to start with. The first two in the series ("The Colour of Magic" and "The Light Fantastic") might be a tad compact at first read (maybe just me, but I've had friends tell me this as well, so...).
I originally wanted to play the computer game, but felt I had to read the books first... I never got around to actually playing the games though. (I tried "Discworld Noir" for a while, but some of its bugs seriously interfered with the gameplay)
"Mort" I believe contains the reference to "Duck Man"...
