I'v been using Windows since my whole life untill 2003 when I switched to Linux. Then used linux for 2 years and when It was time for a new computer I was gonna order a dell laptop. So I found the one I like and ordered it, but the next day I got a e-mail saying that my credit card was rejected...So I went to school and my friend told me about the Mac Mini and I needed a new computer for Video Editin mostly. SO decided to order that with a sexy 17' Samsun LCD. I will Never use windows, but I will have Linux as my second computer, but Mac as the primary one :D

The "right" amount is a bit subjective. WinXP requires 1.5GB of space, but you'll also need room for additional hardware drivers, room for temporary space/virtual memory, and room for games. You'll need to consider how much space your games will need. On my 500GB HDD, I partitioned off 100GB. It's not nearly enough for all the games in my library, but it allows me to have several of them installed while running Win 7.

However, I don't think there's a right answer that anyone other than you can provide. Also, read the Bootcamp message and make sure it supports WinXP. I know the 2011 MBPs do not.

Is there an echo in here? :)

Good point about no official support for XP on current Macs--Win 7 only, if I'm not mistaken. Though, if you google around, it seems possible to get most things working. Would be a little easier, I think, on a desktop than a laptop.

    Happy computing.

Well, when I first saw this video several months ago, I got really excited... but now that it has actually been implemented in the iPhone, I think we'll see a bright future with this technology and Apple.

I can already see so many uses for people using such programs as Aperture and the Final Cut Studio, for audio professionals and DJs, and it seems like it could be great for compositors using Phenomenon when it comes next year to replace shake.

I'd love to have a regular ACD then an Apple Multi-Touch HD display to work on.

There's no way that Apple will limit this to the iPhone for longer than it takes to effectively create screens and programs to work with it.

This will NOT work for "any iPhone/iPod touch." This needs to be made clear for anybody who thinks this is a one-size-fits-all solution for everybody.

Apple cryptographically "signs" firmware releases these days. This happens during the restore process, and unless Apple signs off on the restore, you'll get an error message. Even if you could bypass the error message, without the signatures specific to your device for that iOS version, your device would never boot up.

Apple prevents downgrades by refusing to sign anything but the latest version of software. This is where Saurik's SHSH collector and TSS server come into play, for those that take advantage of his services.

The reason it worked for YOU is because you have a second-generation iPod touch and you were downgrading to something less than 4.0. Apple didn't start using device-specific (ECID-based) SHSHs until 3.x on iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd-gen, and 4.x on all other devices that support 4.x (including iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2nd-gen). So, unless you are collecting your SHSHs for each Apple software release, if you are on 4.2.1 on your iPod touch, you would be able to downgrade to 2.1.1 like you did, but you would not be able to downgrade to 4.1 or 4.0.

Also, you didn't technically need iREB for this. All you used iREB for was to get the iPod into DFU mode. You can do that yourself, manually, using the power and home buttons...instructions for doing so are in abundance on-line.

If you have an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3rd-gen, or iPod touch 4th-gen, you can't downgrade to any release without the corresponding SHSH for your device. Period.

    -- Nathan

Not sure how you saw a 12" Powerbook over a decade ago since they didn't come out until 2003 ;)

But seriously, they will hold 1.12GB of RAM in the original 867MHz models, and all the ones after than will do 1.25GB of RAM. For a short time you actually could get CPU upgrades through a company that you would mail the PowerBook to and they would upgrade it to 1.67GHz or something like that. I've owned both a 867MHz model and currently a 1.5GHz one. Go for no less than a 1.33. They have faster RAM, much better graphics chips, and more HD space by default. My 1.5GHz is wonderful in Leopard with the maximum RAM installed and its 64MB GeForce Go5200 graphics card. Probably wouldn't hurt to find a newer & faster HD, but for a secondary computer, 60GB is plenty for me.

posting a copy of that might help (or the part you are worried about i guess to keep it short). easier to read and research than guess and give you a wrong answer.

the two copies of X are fine. i have several copies/versions in my MP with no issue. and one more on an external firewire drive actually come to think of it...

For anyone with long password phrases that have easily-guessable words in the first 8 characters, this is a problem. Since "MacintoshOSXIsMoreSecureThanMicrosoftWindows" only needs to be entered as "Macintosh", gaining unauthorized access is very simple with a common name attack. Of course, we all have passwords that are a combination of letters and numbers, including a mix of upper- and lower-case characters. ;)

Actually, this is not entirely true. Keychain Access actually requires the full password. This issue has been documented on MacFixIt before.

Now the world has really turned upsidedown...

Wasn't it Michael Dell who wanted to have Apple close up shop and sell the stock back to its shareholders only back in February?

Now Dell is doing its best to give Apple visibility, and sales!

personally, I would get the classic, since I already have an older nano, both are great iPods though, so you would be happy with either. Base your decision on how important having all of your music with you is, if you can get by with less storage, the Nano will be great, if you need all of your music with you you have no choice but the classic.
